Ava – Ready for Adoption!

Night and day. Right and left. Up and down. Ava and… Ava? Lots of things have two sides that are totally different, but inextricably part of each other. And so do I.  There’s Ava the timid. The cautious. The dog who ducks her head and runs away when a stranger comes around and needs time to build up trust.
And then, there’s Ava the cuddly. The lovebug. The one who wiggles with joy upon seeing a familiar face and loves to show off tricks (I can “sit pretty” like a champ! It’s an impressive trick for a little dog and even more so for a 50-lb dog like me).  I can be both things. I find new places and new people a bit overwhelming, so I need time to acclimate to both. I need an adopter with a bit of patience, both before adoption (because it will take me a few moments to warm up) and after (while I get used to your home). And, even once I trust you, I don’t think I’ll ever be the type of dog who wants to chat strangers up in public. I’d rather mind my own business and get on with my walk.  But also, it really doesn’t take very long to make friends with me. I love treats and, if you offer me a few, I’ll quickly start to figure out that you’re pretty cool. And, once I do, I’m like a whole different dog! I’m sweet and loving and lots of fun. I get along with other dogs (it’s a “no thanks” from me on cats, though, I’m afraid) and, in my previous home, was housebroken. I’m a gorgeous, sweet, awesome dog! I just get scared sometimes.  I’d love a home with a secure fence or someone who will take me on accompanied leash walks- no electric fences, tie-outs, or unfenced acreage for me, please. A quiet home would be ideal, but mostly, I just want a safe one. I’m only three years old, so while I’m not super energetic, I would love some regular exercise!  So if you’re up for loving every side of me, please come and see me! I’ll be waiting here and practicing my tricks.  My name is Ava, I’m three years old, and I’m spayed, up to date on shots, and fully vetted.
