Aurora – Ready for Adoption!

Did you know that, for every birthday you have, you get to make a wish?  My name is Aurora and I just celebrated my first birthday! I know you’re not supposed to tell people what you wished for, but I feel like I can trust you.  I wished, of course, for a family. Someone to love me every day for the rest of my life, even when I get old and gray. I wished that I would never again have to wonder if my person was coming back for me or where I was going to sleep tomorrow or who would take care of me.  I’ve been through a lot in my short life and I’d like to say I never let it get me down, but it wouldn’t be true. I can be shy when meeting new people and often need a little time and coaxing before I’m ready to trust. When I do, of course, I’m all in. A total velcro dog. I want to be in your lap, in your arms… I would probably live inside your clothes if you let me. At only about 29 lb, I may be pushing the limits of lap dog size, but I still qualify.  Once I’m comfortable, I’m a happy little girl! I love toys and can often be seen carrying one around with me. I’m told it’s extremely charming. In my previous life, I lived with kids and my person said I loved them. In the shelter, I’ve met other dogs and done well with them. I haven’t met cats, so I’m not sure what I’d think of them.  I do seem to struggle with separation anxiety, at least right at first. I had a very brief trial adoption, during which I got scared and misbehaved when my person left. They worked a lot outside the home, so we decided together that it might not be the perfect match for either of us. I’d love to go home with somebody who is home a lot or can spend some time at home with me during my first few weeks to help me get adjusted gradually and set me up for success.  So what do you think? Is there a chance my wish will come true? Will this be the last birthday I ever have to spend without a home? I hope so! I’m a very sweet girl and I have a lot of love to give.  My name is Aurora, I’m a year old, and I’m spayed, up to date on shots, and fully vetted.
