Onyx – Ready for Adoption!

Close your eyes. Actually, no- keep them open. You can’t read this with your eyes closed. Just… ~pretend~ you’ve got your eyes closed. Picture a family dog. Are you picturing it? What does it look like?  It’s a black lab (mix), right? Waggy tail? Maybe a mouth stuffed full of toys? A happy tongue that sometimes flops to the side?  Yep, that sounds about right. A dog who just happens to look exactly like me! My name is Onyx and I’m looking for a young family to join.  I’m a young guy myself at 2 years old. A HUGE toy fanatic. In fact, I can often be seen going for a walk with my shelter friends, carrying my emotional support toy with me. I love stuffies, bouncy rubber things… pretty much everything.  I’m cuddly, housebroken, and friendly with strangers and have experience living with other dogs and little kids! My dog friendships tend to be most successful after a slow introduction. I love to play fetch, chase squirrels, and be told what a very good boy I am.
I can be kind of a goober, of course. Would you expect anything different? I’m used to staying in a crate when nobody is home. If I’m left loose, I’ve been known to find my own ways of having fun, which may or may not mean “checking to see if your shoes make good chew toys.” Maybe I’ll mature one day. I hope not. I also get really excited on leash walks, so I sometimes pull pretty hard. Having a toy with me helps a lot, but I do want to go home with someone physically able to handle a strong dog for those times when I forget my manners.  So if your family feels a little incomplete without a happy, goofy, super-sweet-and-friendly big ol’ labby (mix) dog… come check me out!
