My name is Maurice and I’ve grown like a dandelion. Grown and blossomed even when all I had to hang onto was a crack in the concrete. Even when my environment was unforgiving, I grew soft and sweet. A beautiful, delightful thing. A granter of wishes. They say “grow through what you go through” and I’m growing all the time. Emotionally, I mean- at four years old, I’m physically fully grown. Since coming to the shelter, I’ve learned to love people and attention. I love to play, love to have my wonderful cheeks scratched, and will do anything for a treat. I’m still a little cautious, but I’m super sweet and ready to be your best friend. I love other cats, even when they’re right in my space. I’ve also met a dog and was pretty unruffled by her presence.
I still have some growing to do, of course… but my hope is that, instead of growing by learning hard lessons, I might get to come home with you, where it’s warm and friendly. Instead of having to hang on in the toughest of environments, I might be nurtured and loved, given rich soil and plenty of care. Imagine how I can grow when that happens!
