Jonas – Ready for Adoption!
Oh! There you are! I’ve been waiting for you to come and meet me. You know those videos of people getting new dogs for Christmas? My story is kind of the opposite of that. Instead of bursting out of a box to the delight of a smiling kid on Christmas, I was tied to a fence and abandoned. In a way, it was a different kind of gift: I got lots of new friends all at once, I got a new name (it’s Jonas), and it got me to a place where I might get to meet YOU!
That’s the best part. I hope that, when you meet me, you like me. I already know I love you. I love everyone I meet, really! So far, I’ve met humans and other dogs and I’m awesome with both. I’m an active, smart, and sensitive guy and, even though I love my shelter friends and am glad to be here, it’s not the perfect setting for me. There’s a lot going on here and, as anyone who has had quite enough of “living in interesting times” knows well, a little excitement may be fun, but too much is stressful. In the shelter, I can be what they call “jumpy-mouthy.” That means that, when someone comes to hang out with me, I sometimes get so excited and wound up that I want to jump all over them and grab at whatever I can- clothing, toys, leashes, etc. There’s a good chance I won’t do that so much in a home, if at all. I’m like a coiled spring, filled with love and unsure about how to express it properly. With a little peace, some routine, and some patience, I’ll be able to slow down. Uncoil. Exhale. I need plenty of exercise… but also, I need the kind of rest that’s hard to get in a shelter. That said, I can’t guarantee I’ll give it up cold-turkey. I’m a young, boisterous boy (only about a year old), so I need someone for whom those moments when I forget my manners will be no big deal. I might not be the perfect match for teeny-tiny kids or anyone with a delicate disposition.
Who WOULD I be perfect for? Someone with another dog (I love playing with other dogs!). Someone who wants a super-loving companion. Someone who needs a walking buddy. In other words… maybe someone just like you! My name is Jonas, I’m a year old, I’m about 50 lb (tall and leggy!) and I’m neutered, up to date on shots, and fully vetted.
