A Temporary Home. A Lifelong Impact.

Opening your home to foster a pet saves lives and helps create space for more animals in need. By fostering a cat or kitten, you provide a safe, stable environment where they can heal, grow, and prepare for adoption.

A foster home gives animals a quieter, more personal environment where they can feel safe, loved, and supported. Foster families also help animals build confidence, practice socialization, and get ready for their next chapter.

Which Program is Right for You?

HAIR B&B

Our general cat foster program. This program is for cats/kittens the shelter has no space for, kittens who have not made required weight for adoption, or a cat recovering from a surgery more extensive than a spay/neuter.

THE LION TAMER

This program focuses on under-socialized kittens, usually under 4 months of age. Our Lion Tamers help to teach kittens how to be comfortable in a home environment and around people.

CATS IN THE CRADLE

For mother cats who are nursing litters and neo-natal kittens with no mother who need to be bottle fed.

COMFORT ZONE

Comfort Zone homes provide an environment that’s less stressful and calmer for cats who do not handle the shelter environment well. Due to numerous factors, some cats entering the shelter environment can become depressed, fearful, and even aggressive. These cats enter a cycle of having issues due to the shelter and not being adopted due to the issues. A Comfort Zone Home provides the best quality of life and the best chance of finding a home.

PAWSPICE

Since we are a no-kill organization, sometimes our cats have illnesses/conditions that will lead to death, but their current quality of life is still good. Pawspice homes provide a loving home environment for the remainder of the cat’s time.

"I started fostering for Open Door 8 years ago and it's been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Over that time, I've cared for more than 250 cats and kittens—What I love most is watching a shy, scared cat slowly come out of their shell."
