Pet Pal Program

Are you looking for a great way to support some of our unadoptable animals, the ones that will always call Open Door home? Our Pet Pal program does just that. When you make your minimum monthly donation of $10, you are providing daily care for one of our lifelong residents. The majority of our Pet Pals have been with us for over a year and are considered special needs. Their special needs are either medical, age-related or behavioral. Every penny we receive through this program goes directly to the care of the cat or dog of your choice. For more information, contact Lynese at Development@odas.org.  While there is always something going on at the shelter, our Pals take time out of their busy play and/or sleep schedules to keep in touch with their sponsors. We will send you quarterly update letters and photos throughout the year. When you become a Pal to one of our Pets, you help to change their lives.  Sponsor one cat or dog year-round to be your “Pal” with a $10.00 monthly donation!

The Founder’s Circle

Founder’s Circle was formed in 2014 in memory of two dedicated women who founded Open Door Animal Sanctuary in 1975 – Joan Costello-Oetting and Carol Perkins. Their vision of giving every animal that comes to Open Door, a second chance at life, which is to this day, our guiding principle. We will forever be grateful for their dedication and determination to give hope to all creatures, great and small.

The Founder’s Circle honors those who make annual gifts of $1,000 or more. This group of distinguished donors support Open Door’s mission with their extraordinary charitable gifts and are considered part of our inner circle of philanthropy.

Open Door recognizes members of the Founder’s Circle each year in the Honor Roll of Donors at the annual Founder’s Circle Appreciation Dinner which is held in the early spring. Those who have donated $1,000 or more in the previous calendar year, will be invited to attend the Appreciation Dinner.

Join Our Legacy Society

A planned gift to Open Door Animal Sanctuary is a powerful statement of your support for our mission. A gift of any size will help protect the future of thousands of unwanted and homeless cats and dogs who count on Open Door for help. Every adult, no matter their age or net worth, needs an estate plan.  An estate plan is comprised of one or more documents such as a will, trust and/or beneficiary designation form that control who will pay your final expenses and distribute your assets according to your wishes.
Open Door is the voice of unwanted cats and dogs, and your legacy gift will provide us with the financial stability and flexibility to continue our work on their behalf. You can select from among many charitable gift-giving strategies to achieve your philanthropic goals and create your legacy. By structuring future gifts with tax benefits and income opportunities in mind, you may be able to achieve some additional financial goals as well. Several options for giving are listed below to help you plan for your personal needs:

  • Bequests through your will
  • Life Insurance Gifts: Make our animals the beneficiary of a life insurance policy
  • Retirement Plans: Donate interest in an IRA or other qualified savings plan

Consulting an attorney who specializes in estate planning is recommended and will help guide you through this process.

The Open Door Animal Sanctuary Legacy Society honors individuals who have made legacy gift commitments. No gift is too small and when you inform us of your planned gift intentions, you become a member of our Legacy Society, which allows us to recognize you appropriately for your generosity and dedication to our cats and dogs.

Additionally, your legacy gift to Open Door enrolls you in our Surviving Pet Care Program. This program gives you peace of mind knowing that if something happens to you, your pet will have a home with us.  They will live out the rest of their lives in the loving care of our staff and volunteers while we work to find them new loving forever home, should you desire.

Many companies offer matching gift programs that will double, even triple your donation’s value. Check with your company to find out if they will match your donation to ODAS. Vehicle Donations

By donating your vehicle (cars, boat, truck, RV, motorcycle, jet ski, snowmobile, etc.) through CARS, click here  for more information. Open Door will receive a generous portion of the value of the donation. To start the vehicle donation process, call the toll-free number at (855) 500-RIDE or (855) 500-7433.

We like to send our dogs home in style! We are in dire need of cute, colorful collars AND LEASHES ESPECIALLY in all sizes; particularly medium and large to fit our “Scooby” size dogs!
