Clementine – Update

Look who’s been released from the vet hospital! Clementine gave us a real scare, but she’s on the mend! Her mother, who was a neglected, stressed dog herself, rejected her at birth. So she needed bottle-feeding and round-the-clock care from the time she was only a few hours old.
Young puppies don’t have developed immune systems anyway, and Clementine never got the vital colostrum and antibodies that would come from mother’s milk, leaving her especially vulnerable. So the vet thinks that what may have otherwise been a minor bacterial infection hit her very hard, resulting in pneumonia and seizures. We are taking each day as it comes. She is on antibiotics and medication to prevent seizures. When she has fully recovered from the pneumonia, we will try to wean her off the seizure meds, but the vet thinks there’s a possibility she will need to stay on them for the rest of her life.  Right now, Clementine is eating, wagging her tail, playing with toys, and looking fantastic! Her foster mom and intended adoptive mom are working together to give her the best life possible.  Thank you all so much for your support!
