MIDAS rescue and rehab

MIDAS was found lying in the middle of the highway not far from our shelter. We wonder if this was his way of giving up since he has to be absolutely miserable with severe mange. Or, maybe he was hopeful that a nice person would come along, see him, and bring him to Open Door – which is exactly what happened today! We are already imagining what he’ll look like in several months once his skin is cleared up. We are thinking he may have a beautiful golden/copper coat. For now, we are hopeful we have the golden touch to bring back the sparkle in his sweet eyes. This type of severe mange will take months of intense care. Already today, he received medication, immunizations, and a heart worm test. He will now begin his frequent skin treatments and baths to treat this stubborn infection. He will have to be in isolation at first so we will reassure him frequently that he is not alone and doesn’t have to worry about finding food and water by himself anymore.
