Jackson – Ready for Adopton!

This week, our longest-stay shelter dog, Raven, found her home at last! So now it’s time, once again, to talk about Jackson. He’s been in the shelter for the better part of nine years and it’s very much time for him to have a chance!  Jackson is a hidden treasure. He’s someone’s soulmate. They just don’t know it yet.
Jackson’s special talents include:
– Turning into a little bird when he sees someone he likes and thinks they might have treats. Looks like a hound dog, sounds like a bird.
– Burying toys, remembering exactly where they are, and then finding them later. He once kept one buried in a yard that gets cleaned daily and used by other dogs for more than three weeks and then dug it back up and did a victory lap.
– Chasing off delivery drivers. He believes they’re highly suspicious and he must alert the neighborhood any time the Amazon guy shows his face.
– Napping very hard in the sunshine so that you have to do periodic wellness checks to make sure he’s still alive. He’s fine. He’s just enjoying himself!
– Being the best and sweetest boy and my best pal.
Jackson is up for anything. Wanna go on an adventure? He’ll come along! Wanna see if pawprint painting will work? Jackson’s a willing beta-tester. Want a dog who will wear bunny ears and pose for a picture? Jackson is absolutely your man.
Jackson is outgoing, a champion snuggler, a seasoned professional on leash, a creature of habit, and a cheap date: give him one treat and he’s your best friend for life. At ten years old, he loves his naps, but still has plenty of energy to play!
He needs a home with no other pets and no small children. During a previous adoption, Jackson has shown some resource guarding behaviors around furniture/resting places as he’s been getting used to the home setting. It’s not something he’s ever done in the shelter, but he should go home with someone prepared to work with him on some of those “learning to be a dog” things. Jackson has never had a stable home other than the shelter and needs someone solid and committed. In another previous adoption, living in a high-traffic setting made him anxious and the adopter felt that he’d do best in a more rural area.  For the right person, Jackson will be the perfect companion! He’s such a good buddy and it would be wonderful to see him land in the right place at last.  Jackson is 10 years old, neutered, up to date on shots, and fully vetted.
